69,760 graduates registered with JobsMalaysia this year
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 16 (Bernama) -- A total 69,760 graduates registered with job matching portal JobsMalaysia from Jan 1 till Nov 13 this year, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.
Deputy Human Resource Minister Senator Datuk Maznah Mazlan said of the total, 18 held doctorate degrees, 1,165 Masters degrees, 36,985 degrees and 31,592 diplomas.
"However, this is not an actual reflection of the unemployment situation among graduates as some among them were already working but were seeking better prospects," she said when replying to a question from Datuk Baharum Mohamed (BN-Sekijang).
Baharum had wanted an update on the portal which was created by the Human Resource Ministry.
Maznah said 73,308 vacancies were registered on the portal during the same period while 19,127 or 26.09 per cent of graduates registered with it gained employment using the system.
Meanwhile, Deputy Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry Minister Datuk Mohd Johari Baharom told the Dewan that manpower growth for the sector dipped by 5.5 per cent to 648,000 workers last year compared to 726,000 workers in 2006.
Of the total 380,600 workers (58.7 peratus) were in Peninsular Malaysia, 127,700 (19.7 per cent ) in Sabah and 140,100 (21.6 per cent) in Sarawak.
The racial breakdown was 246,200 Malays and other Bumiputeras, 38,700 Chinese, 3,600 Indians and 3,300 others.
The livestock sector involved participation from 13,000 Bumiputeras, 8,700 Chinese, 2,800 Indians and 500 others while in the fisheries sector, it was 82,800 Bumiputeras, 23,000 Chinese, 500 Indians and 500 of other ethnicities.
Johari had been questioned on the matter by Datuk Ismail Abd. Muttalib (BN-Maran).
